Breaking the status quo is what makes us tick

In 2016, Beraca took an important step in consolidating its activities related to the socioeconomic development of extractive communities, the conservation of the environment and the dissemination of sustainable practices. Thanks to the expertise structured by the Socio-biodiversity Enhancement Program®, the company created the Beraca Institute which is focused on six workstreams:

Access and benefit sharing

Creation and implementation of social responsibility projects

Development of productive chains based on sustainable extracting practices

Creation and execution of customized strategic projects

Generation of knowledge for the whole society

In 2017, Beraca Institute was behind the recognition granted by Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade (Exame Magazine’s Sustainability Guide) to Beraca. The company was awarded in the Relation with the Community category.

Initially, the market was taken by surprise when we created the Institute. After all, we already had an established model of activities related to sustainability. In spite of this, over time, our stakeholders noticed that it was an evolution of Beraca’s work model that allowed us to address issues that we, as a private entity, were previously not able to deal with directly. It is a matter of pride that we have ventured in this direction because a few years ago we understood that the situation in Brazil would become increasingly complex.
